Kaspersky published a new study that showcases children worldwide changed interests under the new normal from 2020 to 2021. Kaspersky reveals that among the trendy apps for children are TikTok, Roblox, and Youtube.
Youtube takes first place as the most popular app, followed by messenger WhatsApp and social network TikTok. The top 10 also includes four games: Brawl Stars, Roblox, Among Us, and Minecraft, according to Kaspersky.
Children nowadays are into listening to and watching music videos on Youtube. Trendy videos “pop it and simple dimple” and “ASMR” are also popular among children. Music tastes besides K-POP bands like BTS and BLACKPINK include Ariana Grande, Billie Eilish, and Travis Scott. Another musical genre, like ‘phonk,’ also became popular.
Of course, Tiktok remains the trendsetter among children, as the perception of the social network begun to transform. Moreover, with creative content becoming popular on the platform, the skills developed in creating content make it a viable choice of profession among children.
For video games, those trending the most with children include Minecraft (22.84%), Fortnite (6.73%), Among Us (3.80%), Brawl Stars (6.34%), and the much-loved Roblox game (3.82%). For almost all countries, Roblox is the most frequently played game in the top 10.

Tips to remain safe in an online space for children
To ensure children have a positive online experience, Kaspersky recommends that parents:
- First, learn more about your children’s interests.
- Surf and learn together. See where children spend their time online and explore how to best keep them safe.
- Explain that sensitive information should only be shared via messengers and only with people they know in real life.
- Consider downloading parental control apps and discuss this topic with your child to explain how such apps work and why they need them to stay safe online.
- Spend more time communicating with children about online safety measures.
