Filipinos can enjoy the porting service by September 30 this year, the same day it will commercially launch, through Telecommunications Connectivity Inc (TCI).
DITO, Globe, and Smart formed the joint venture firm TCI to make number porting services a reality.
TCI will be the implementing arm for all mobile service providers and the mobile number portability service provider. Melanie A. Manuel has been named TCI’s Interim General Manager, an Industrial Engineering graduate whose telco work experience ranges from Domestic Carrier Relations to IS Business Analysis.
Meanwhile, the telcos have chosen Syniverse to be the mobile number portability service provider (MNPSP). It will deliver the technical infrastructure to fulfill its primary function as a clearinghouse for the three telcos and ensuring smooth implementation of number porting services.
Mobile Number Portability (MNP) allows customers to keep their phone numbers even when switching networks or changing their subscriptions.
Thus, MNP provides a seamless way for consumers to migrate to different mobile service providers or subscription plans without changing their mobile numbers– with the porting itself also being free of charge.
For users to take advantage of the porting services, they need to have an active SIM, and the ones requesting are the assignee of the mobile number to be ported. Other requirements include:
- No remaining balance from your previous bill (for postpaid)
- No existing court prohibitions
- No pending transfer of ownership
So far, the major telcos have invested a total of PHP120 Million and are expected to spend more in the future.
“The entire telco industry and the Philippine government are pushing forward with the same goal of providing Filipinos with better telco services,” said DITO Telcommunity Chief Administrative Officer Atty. Adel Tamano. He’s also the Treasurer of TCI.
“A lot of brainstorming happened, testing and developing all possible scenarios that can happen in MNP and finally after 22 months we can say we are now ready to provide Mobile Number Portability in the Philippines,” commented Atty. Froilan Castelo, General Counsel of Globe Group of Companies and the presiding chairman of TCI.
“Through mobile number portability, we are empowering our customers to pursue their passions and purpose. Ang DITO, Globe at Smart ay katuwang ng ating gobyerno upang palakasin ang telco industry sa Pilipinas,” commented Mario Tamayo, SVP and Head of Technology of PLDT and Smart, as well as the President of TCI.
