Nissan Motor Co., Ltd. is gathering a EUR2.5 million fund to support the humanitarian crisis in Ukraine to contribute to the safety and livelihood of people through its Nissan Cares fund.
The Nissan Cares fund will contribute to broader efforts to support the people, affected employees, and their families in Ukraine. Through the fund, the company will donate EUR1 million to the Red Cross and other non-profit organizations to support ongoing emergency activities that provide lifesaving assistance and essential supplies to families and children at this time. The company is also prepared to donate vehicles if needed.
Furthermore, Nissan has also seeded this special fund with 1.5 million Euros to provide financial stability and ongoing support for Nissan employees and their families who the crisis has impacted. It could support relocation costs, living expenses for displaced families, medical expenses, and special assistance for children.
Employees and partners who would like to help directly can also contribute to the Nissan Cares special fund through monetary donations or goods such as food and clothing.
“We have all been moved by the suffering of so many people and families – including members of our own Nissan family. We have created the Nissan Cares fund to stand by our employees, and to support to the international efforts working around the clock to respond to this immeasurable human tragedy,” said Nissan CEO Makoto Uchida.
On a relative note, Nissan also announced the suspension of exporting its vehicles to Russia, anticipating that production will stop soon at its plant in St. Petersburg.
