Senator Christopher “Bong” Go stressed that the Department of Information and Communications Technology (DICT) should take the helm in facilitating the e-governance system for the Philippines to settle in a “better normal” amid the fight against COVID-19.
Go cited that people have been complaining about the old ways of governance, wherein getting a simple permit takes several days and requires to be physically present at government offices.
The neophyte senator added that e-governance would be useful in various transaction levels, may it be government-to-government, government-to-citizen, or government-to-business.
But for these developments to become a reality, Go said that the problems linked to Internet connection in the country should be addressed and the DICT must have a hand in.
“It’s sad to think about it because now, more than ever, a reliable and speedy Internet connection has become integral in the everyday lives of our countrymen. This need exists not only in our urban centers but also in our rural and provincial areas as well,” he lamented.
