Globe Telecom, Inc. appealed to the National Telecommunications Commission (NTC) to amend current laws and allow only type-approved repeaters in a bid to address the growing number of illegal repeaters sold online.
Globe urged subscribers to buy and use repeaters that are approved. The telco giant also vowed to do a monthly inspection of frequencies to monitor any unauthorized interference.
Repeaters are devices that help boost Internet signals but can affect network signals among communities.
“Illegal repeaters may boost the weak signal of a user, but these unauthorized devices likewise put into risk the lives of other people in the community who need assistance in matters of life and death situations,” said Globe Chief Legal Counsel Vicente Froilan Castelo.
Globe bared illegal repeaters are becoming common on online shopping sites, but are not allowed under the Memorandum Order No. 01-02-2013 issued by the NTC.
