Globe Telecom’s mobile wallet GCash revealed to explore the possibility of adding cryptocurrency to its financial products and services.
GCash president and chief executive officer Martha Sazon said it will include offering, buying, selling and storing cryptocurrency in its platform.
GCash rose as the Philippines’ leading mobile wallet platform, with more than 40 million users as of April. Sazon added that 40% of Filipinos have a GCash account. Active users using the app more than twice a day.
To date, GCash allows its users to shop, save, invest, get insurance coverage, among others. The app is accessible upon creating an account, as it doesn’t require maintaining balance, fees, nor an initial deposit.
“We will continue to innovate and provide relevant and accessible financial services for all,” Sazon concluded.
