Elon Musk reinstates former US president Donald Trump’s Twitter account

Elon Musk has reinstated former President Donald J. Trump to Twitter.

Musk, who bought Twitter for $44 billion, had asked Twitter users whether to bring back Trump on Twitter after the platform banned him in January 2021 for his posts that “incite violence.”

More than 15 million users answered Musk’s question with around 52 percent in favor of the controversial former US president’s return on Twitter.

“The people have spoken,” Musk said in a tweet. “Trump will be reinstated.”

Twitter has been the talk of the town in the past few weeks following the Musk acquisition due to sudden employee layoffs that had also called the attention of the United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights, and news about the platform shutting down.
