In partnership with the Department of Health, Viber has developed a chatbot to help its users in the Philippines to keep themselves informed and updated concerning the coronavirus disease (Covid-19).

“The idea of a chatbot is to try and reduce the workload that sits on the DOH,” said Anubhav Nayyar, Viber’s senior director for Asia Pacific.

According to Nayyar, this chatbox is a set of about 10-15 questions when it comes to common inquiries and its language will be a blend of Tagalog and English or Taglish.

“If we can build a system through the form of a chatbot where a lot of those queries can be automatically addressed, then it just helps everyone,” he said.

The encrypted messaging app Viber has recently recorded a 55% increase of new users registering daily and a 40% increase in its daily active users.
