The House Committee on Information and Communications Technology directed the National Telecommunications Commission (NTC) to make sure that telecommunication companies (telcos) and Internet service providers (ISPs) deliver accurate Internet speed to their consumers.

Manila Teachers Party-list Rep. Virgilio Lacson and Tarlac 2nd District Rep. Victor Yap reminded NTC Deputy Commissioner Edgardo Cabarios about the companies’ tendency to advertise maximum speed even if the actual Internet speed consumers get is way below the promised speed.

“Instead you say the minimum speed you are required to give so that we won’t be misled,” said Lacson.

Agreeing with the proposal, Cabarios replied: “We will come up with a circular prescribing the minimum based on what they say is the maximum.” He admitted that actual connection speed being delivered is much slower compared to their promised fastest speed.
