Rizal 2nd District Representative Fidel Nograles seeks more efforts from the sector of Internet service providers (ISPs) to block the access and distribution of child pornography in the Philippines.
Nograles lamented that the ISPs have been unable to curb the alarming rise of online sexual exploitation of children (OSEC) amid the COVID-19 crisis due to the lack of technology that could prevent this activity.
In line with this, the congressman filed House Resolution (HR) No. 999, directing the House committees on justice and welfare of children to investigate the rising cases of OSEC in the country.
“This data is very alarming. I pity the children. This is an urgent issue that we need to address,” said Nograles, citing that a total of 279,166 cases of OSEC were tallied from March 1 to May 24 this year, according to the Department of Justice – Office of Cybercrime (DOJ-OOC).
