Assistant Minority Leader and ACT Teachers Party-List Representative France Castro proposed a bill granting all public school teachers a monthly P1,500 Internet allowance to help them meet the requirements of online or flexible learning set by the Department of Education (DepEd).

House Bill No. 7034 or “Internet Allowance for Public School Teachers Act of 2020″ mandates the DepEd and the Department of Budget and Management (DBM) to promulgate the rules and regulations to be implemented within 30 days after the law’s effectivity.

Makabayan bloc lawmakers Carlos Isagani Zarate, Ferdinand Gaite, and Eufemia Cullamat of Bayan Muna, Arlene Brosas of GABRIELA, and Sarah Jane Elago of Kabataan joined the filing of HB 7034.

“We urge the House leadership to swiftly enact this measure into law as the target date of the Department of Education nears and no teacher or student shall be burdened by education just because they do not have a stable Internet connection,” said Castro.
