A senior Chinese diplomat declared that “rejecting Huawei is rejecting the future” in response to the United Kingdom’s (UK) decision to follow the United States (US) ban against Huawei.
“Choosing Huawei is choosing opportunities and growth, and rejecting Huawei is rejecting opportunities and growth,” said Liu Xiaoming, Chinese ambassador to the UK in an online interview with The Times newspaper.
“I think UK has missed the opportunity to be a leading country in this area,” Liu added. The UK is banning Huawei to safeguard its telecommunications network and national security.
The British government announced Tuesday to ban new Huawei 5G equipment after Dec 31, 2020, and remove all Huawei equipment from the country’s 5G networks by the end of 2027.
The US has urged its allies to veer away from Huawei upon suspicion that it may pose national security threats, citing that China will use the company as a bridge for intelligence gathering or espionage.
