The Philippine Statistics Authority (PSA) planned to begin the pre-registration process for the country’s National ID System, also known as the Philippine Identification System (PhilSys), in October.

The system collects the names, ages, and other demographic information from homes. The biometric data such as fingerprints, iris scans, and front-facing photographs will be captured in the appointment date at registration systems. These are done to follow the social distancing measures and limit the number of people that will queue in registration centers amid the COVID-19 pandemic.

The National ID system will support the government initiatives in streamlining the social protection and financial inclusion, and also digitalizing the Philippines’ economy. This will also help in distributing the government subsidiaries to low-income families affected by the COVID-19 in the future.
