Senator Sherwin Gatchalian said it might be impossible to procure laptops for every public school teacher in the country for their online classes this coming August due to budget constraints.
In light of this, Gatchalian said that improving the country’s Internet connectivity is the best support the government can provide to public school teachers.
“Make sure that they have Internet connectivity. We can use their schools as a Wi-Fi hub. Let’s use the schools so they will have free access to the Internet,” he proposed.
The senator cited the Department of Education’s (DepEd) situation of not having the funds nor the authority to provide the needed gadgets and tools for alternative learning.
Earlier, a teachers’ group also expressed the same sentiment, stating that DepEd’s efforts will become useless unless the government resolves the connectivity problems in the country.
