The process done by the government that led to the selection of DITO Telecommunity as the third telco player is flawed, according to a study by consulting firm Creator Tech.
The report titled “A Study into the Proposed New Telecommunications Operator in the Philippines: Critical Success Factors and Likely Risks” and authored by Steve Mackay said that DITO’s plan to set up telco infrastructure in the country might have “serious repercussions.”
Mackay stated that several “well-credentialed companies” participated in the bid, but most were eliminated out of bogus grounds, leading DITO to be taking the third entrant spot being predetermined.
He added that the China-backed third telco “has no previous background in the telecommunications sector,” save for its owner having “close personal ties” to President Rodrigo Duterte.
