The Department of Education (DepEd) stressed that various sectors must work together and help in providing nationwide-covered connectivity for teachers as they themselves work as frontliners amid the COVID-19 crisis.
The call for agencies to improve connectivity in the country arose when viral photos came to attention showing public school teachers camping out beside a highway in Maco, Davao de Oro in search of signal coverage.
Allegedly, these teachers wanted to catch up on a DepEd webinar. For some people, the photos portrayed the department as heartless and unaware.
The photo also highlights the teachers’ devotion and willingness to upskill through learning new ways of teaching that will ensure the safety of the children, said DepEd Undersecretary for Administration Alain Pascua.
And for all the efforts these teachers have done to come to fruition, Pascua asked support from Internet service providers (ISPs), telecommunications companies, local government units (LGUs), and the Department of Information and Communications Technology (DICT) in the spirit of Bayanihan.
