Senator Emmanuel “Manny” Pacquiao requested the Senate to conduct a legislative inquiry on the availability of cell sites.
Pacquiao filed Senate Resolution 435 which states that access to the Internet became essential for the Philippines to function and operate, conforming to the demands and the present situation caused by the COVID-19 crisis.
The senator cited that telcos resorted to cell sites on wheels to provide continuous service amid the current crisis and natural disasters in the past. He said that such portable cell sites can also help in areas that require physical distancing, such as schools for online learning.
He mentioned that the Philippines has been among the Southeast Asian nations that suffer because of slow Internet connection while having one of the most expensive broadband subscriptions worldwide.
