With the use of FaceApp becoming viral, the National Privacy Commission (NPC) advised the public always to be cautious when uploading photos on social media as these may expose users to data privacy risks.

FaceApp is a mobile application that enables users to modifies photos using various presets or filters, such as altering the face of a man to a woman or even age manipulation.

“Do not be afraid to explore new technologies but use it with caution. Report abuse, if any,” said Privacy Commissioner Raymund E. Liboro.

Based on NPC’s investigation, the European Union’s General Data Protection Regulation and the California Consumer Privacy Act mandated the developers of the app to improve privacy policy on the 2020 FaceApp version.
