Manila Bulletin (MB) recently reported that Commission on Elections (COMELEC) servers were breached, with about 60GB worth of data downloaded by a group of hackers.
Furthermore, MB Technews said that a source contacted and provided them with the information regarding the COMELEC breached incident last Saturday, January 8, 2022.
Upon receiving an intel, MB’s technology news team discovered that the hackers’ group breached COMELEC’s system on January 8, 2022, stealing usernames and PINS of vote-counting machines (VCM) and more. These stolen data could potentially affect the May 2022 Elections.
The MB tech news team informed their findings to COMELEC Spokesperson James Jimenez, who said he would report it to the COMELEC Steering Committee. For now, there’s no official statement yet from the commission itself.
