The Philippines Statistics Authority’s (PSA) “Employment Situation in July 2020” report revealed that there are about 4.6 million Filipinos unemployed, significantly higher by 2.1 million compared to the same period last year.

While the COVID-19 pandemic that led to strict lockdown measures since March has to do with the rising number of unemployed people, the situation also paved the way for a more favorable attitude toward telecommuting.

More people are also compelled to look for jobs online and this is where LinkedIn comes into the picture. Anyone looking for their first job or changing theirs may find it handy to rely on LinkedIn.

One needed to do is create an account on LinkedIn and fill in the necessary information. Polishing the details like one would in filling up a resume helps you be more credible for those who may be interested in hiring you.

The next thing to do is to build up your network with the people you know like your colleagues and friends who also use LinkedIn, and make connections.

Once you got all the foundations down, you may get started looking for jobs available on the platform. There is more than one way to do this. You may click on the “Jobs” section to browse through the job listings after typing down what kind of job you’re looking for and set up an alert via email for anything new that comes up.

The other is through the use of LinkedIn’s new feature, Career Explorer, which helps you branch out to other jobs you have never been before but is recommended based on the previous job you have experience. The tool allows you to transition careers easier without the pressure of finding the right job for you.

You must also select your residence, the locations you prefer to work in, and type your previous job. There will be a list of positions you can apply for related to your previous job and an analysis of the said associated jobs you can apply to with a list of skills you need to build up for those jobs. Check out LinkedIn’s Career Explorer at https://linkedin.github.io/career-explorer/.

LinkedIn is one of the platforms designed to help users find the right job based on their skills and previous jobs they may have. If you are looking for a job, we hope that this guide will help you.
