Last Friday, I was invited by Manila Bulletin to their unboxing event of the iPhone 8 and iPhone 8 Plus held at the Manila Bulletin Office at Intramuros, Manila. During the event, I was surprised that they called my name to unbox the iPhone 8 powered by Globe Telecom. The unboxing event was broadcasted live at the Manila Bulletin Tech News Facebook Page.

The lightning cable.

The iPhone 8 headset already has a lightning connector instead of the usual 3.5mm jack. There is still and adapter included in the box for users who would prefer a different headsets with 3.5mm connector.

First Impressions

The iPhone 8 design is very similar to the iPhone 7. The difference is that the iPhone 8 showcases a glass body design. At first I thought the glass design might be slippery but I am surprised that it is a lot easier to hold that the aluminum body of the previous models.

It is already running on latest iOS version which quite confused me since I am using an iPhone 6 which runs on iOS 10. The looks of the latest iOS is a lot different from the previous one.

The home button of the iPhone 8 has a different feel from the iPhone 6 which I am currently using. It is more responsive. There is no need to press the home button to wake the device, you just have to put your finger on the home button and it will already detect it.

Although the device fits perfectly in my hands, I am quite not impressed with the glass body of the iPhone 8 since it may not fit my rugged lifestyle. I can say that the iPhone 8 just like a version  2 of the iPhone 7. Aside from the chipset and glass body, there are no significant improvement with the device.

The iPhone 8 will be available locally around November this year and you can get it from Globe Telecom through its postpaid or prepaid kit.
