In a bid to keep up the growing demand for Internet connectivity, Globe announced it would relentlessly expand and install new cell sites nationwide next year.
Globe managed to build 500 cell sites in 2018 before the implementation of ARTA JMC and Bayanihan 2. In 2019, the company doubled its rollouts with 1,100 new locations. The company is still on track to roll out 1,300 sites this year amid the ongoing pandemic.
Globe credited its successful aggressive rollout to the national government agencies and local government units for facilitating the issuance of permits to telcos, namely, the passage of the Bayanihan To Recover as One Act or Bayanihan 2 on September 11, 2020, among others.
Globe also partnered with five independent tower companies to further expedite cell site builds to build 900 new installations in the key locations nationwide.
“With a promising start with these tower companies in 2021, we can expect to see more cell towers in different areas in the country,” said Gil Genio, Globe’s Chief Technology and Information Officer.
