The Department of Education (DepEd) had encountered “technical difficulties” that temporarily delayed the budget hearing of the agency with the Senate.

DepEd Secretary Leonor Briones was supposed to present the agency’s proposed budget for 2021 before the Senate Committee on Finance via video conference but the senators couldn’t understand her due to poor Internet connection.

Senator Pia Cayetano called out to Briones but the latter did not respond. Senator Francis Pangilinan said there might be technical difficulties in their end.

“This does not bode well in our distance education, Madame Chair,” Senator Sonny Angara remarked.

Briones can be finally heard speaking, to which she told Angara: “That’s why modular learning will be used, radio and TV can be used as there are choices.”

This was not the first time the DepEd encountered technical difficulties. Back in August, the agency’s virtual launch of its school readiness program was marred by glitches.

The agency is set to start school year (SY) 2020-2021 on October 5.
