Senator Sherwin Gatchalian urged the Department of Energy (DOE) to work on all pending solar project applications in line with the government’s planned rollout of the Renewable Portfolio Standards (RPS) for 2021.
Gatchalian prompted the DOE as there was already a procedure that fast-tracks the permitting process for foreign and domestic investors. He said that the mounting applications would bring installations capable of covering over 13,217 megawatts.
The RPS mandates electricity suppliers to source some of their energy supply from eligible renewable energy (RE) resources.
The senator noted that the Energy Virtual One-Stop Shop (EVOSS) Act enacted last year would complete energy-related projects’ requirements through online means and bring down electricity costs.
