Most anticipated mobile technology finally sets itself up in the Philippines via Globe, successfully completing the first-ever international 5G video-call to 5G mobile network of Thailand’s own last Friday, February 21. The technical call test lasted over three minutes with the Philippines ‘ Globe receiving it from Thailand’s mobile operator AIS in Bangkok without any lag nor glitch.
Globe Director for Technology Enablement & Services Planning Alan Garchitorena took the test call from President of AIS Hui Weng Cheong. According to AIS President, the technical call proceeded and ended “very smoothly. Superb. My appreciation for the support from the Globe Team.”
Thailand’s mobile operator AIS has just officially acquired its new 5G spectrum and straightaway made the call to Globe on the same day. Globe had only launched its 5G Fixed Wireless access last June and is targeting to fire up 5G sites in key areas such as central business districts (CBD) within the year.
5G is the fifth generation of wireless mobile networks beyond LTE mobile networks, the next powerful tech that is expected to serve brilliant new high-end features. The technical test call being a success so far serves as proof of such promise.
“This technology will deliver a new era of digital use for AR, VR, Internet of Things (IoT), industrial applications and much more in the Philippines,” added Garchitorena.
