Facebook recently announced that it would be changing its commerce policies that bar the selling of protected lands across its associated platforms. This is after investigating a plot of the Amazon rainforest being sold to its Marketplace by BBC last February, which is illegal.
“We will now review listings on Facebook Marketplace against an international organization’s authoritative database of protected areas to identify listings that may violate this new policy,” said Facebook in a statement.
According to Facebook, these new policies will ramp up as soon as October 8 and be an ongoing process, starting with removing Amazon rainforest land sale.
“These are the first steps Facebook is taking to address this issue and as with other integrity initiatives we will continue working to prevent people from circumventing our enforcement,” they added.
