Facebook announced it removed 7 million posts in the second quarter for circulating misinformation about the COVID-19, such as fake preventive measures or cures. This data is released as part of its 6th Community Standards Enforcement Report.

Facebook said it would invite external experts that will independently audit the metrics used in the report starting in 2021.

Aside from false COVID-19 information, Facebook also deleted about 22.5 million posts containing hate speech in the second quarter, a significant surge from 9.6 million posts in the first quarter.

The social media company divulged it’s mostly using an automation technology for reviewing content circulating in the platform during April, May, and June as it had fewer review officers due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
