For over 40 years, Energy Development Corporation (EDC) continues sustainability as its core and pioneering practice. Global and diverse, it is the biggest 100% renewable energy company in the country, operating 1,181 MW of geothermal, 150 MW of wind, 132 MW of hydroelectric power, and 12 MW of solar energies for a total of 1,475 MW of clean and renewable energy.
Since 1976, EDC has been generating geothermal energy aka Geo 24/7, a form of renewable energy (RE) that provides reliable baseload, and has placed the Philippines on the map as the world’s 3rd biggest geothermal producer. The company implements environmental and social programs across all of its business units that would also uplift the lives of the members of its host communities.
By this, EDC only invests in low-carbon RE solutions to encourage consumers to make sustainable decisions and make sure that future generations can still enjoy and benefit from thriving nature all around them.
For over 10 years, the company accomplishes various aspects of green programs through its flagship BINHI legacy program, restoring balding forests, propagating threatened native tree species and protecting biodiversity. About 6.3 million seedlings were planted, with 9,196 hectares of bald forests restored with the help of collaborative efforts of its 88 forest communities in restoration projects. EDC restored its 96 premium endangered Philippine tree species with the help of its 177 partners in 16 regions.
EDC’s BINHI paved the way for stakeholders to participate in reforestation and biodiversity development efforts and has also empowered forest/farmer communities in terms of food security and income generation. As much as able, EDC’s environmental advocacy, BINHI, reaches out to people in all forms to join the conversation about climate change and the environment.
EDC had grown so big and successful through its cause for meaningful sustainability in spite of compliance and profitability through its greening programs. Being the world’s geothermal tech pioneer and the country’s leading renewable energy company, EDC cycles on to improve and create solutions for more Filipinos in envisioning a world that only uses clean, sustainable energy.
