The Department of Science and Technology (DOST) wants to locally produce vaccines for COVID-19 in collaboration with international partners should their clinical trials become successful.

“What we [DOST] want is that our partner on the clinical trials from the other countries will license a Philippine manufacturer to create the vaccine here if ever the clinical trials become successful,” said DOST Secretary Fortunato dela Pena.

Presently, the DOST is undergoing negotiation with possible vaccine candidates for clinical trials in the country through its international bilateral partners.

The department also hosted a panel from the academe, medical industry, and research institutes to help in the technical assessment and vetting of vaccine prospects.
