The Department of Science and Technology (DOST) and other government agencies extended a hand for micro, small, and medium enterprises (MSMEs) to seamlessly adopt digitalization in their businesses, mandated by President Rodrigo Duterte in his 5th State of the Nation Address (SONA).
Among DOST’s initiatives are the Small Enterprise Technology Upgrading Program (SETUP) 4.0 and the Advanced Mechatronics, Robotics and Industrial Automation Laboratory (AMERIAL) project, both of which aimed to help MSMEs to reach digital transformation.
SETUP 4.0 is a new and improved nationwide strategy that brings MSMEs to the Industry 4.0 level or what is commonly known as the digital transformation of industrial markets. The project helps MSMEs to adopt technological innovations to improve their products, services, and operations and increase their productivity and competitiveness.
In collaboration with the Mechatronics and Robotics Society of the Philippines (MRSP), the AMERIAL project is another program designed to conduct R&D activities related to mechatronics, robotics, and automation for SETUP beneficiaries.
Discussions on how to achieve the recommendations and determine the assistance that DOST will provide for the MSMEs are still ongoing
