With the Philippine government already facilitating telco permits, the third telco should have made significant progress to meet its quota. But the latest recordings that detail Philippine telecommunication companies’ bandwidth from October 2020 to January 2021 seemed to prove otherwise.
According to ProjectBass, DITO Telecommunity has a significantly low bandwidth than Globe Telecom and Smart Communications. User Wilson Chua, who posted the chart on Facebook, noted that the DITO tests were done using the WIFI network and not mobile.
DITO’s commercial launching has been highly anticipated by many with its vows to offer a world-class quality network service for all Filipinos. It promised to provide a minimum internet speed of 27Mbps that will reach a nationwide coverage of 37% by March 2021.
However, the chart begs the question of whether or not the third telco player will deliver its vows as its official launch looming near. DITO’s current poor network performance as per the chart might suggest another roll-out delay.
Collaborated with the Department of Information and Communications Technology (DICT), ProjectBass is a non-profit project that keeps track of Philippine telcos’ network service.
