The Department of the Interior and Local Government (DILG) urged local government units (LGUs) to speed up the process of issuing cell site construction permits for telecommunication companies (telcos) in their jurisdictions.
This is in light of LGU’s slow and complex process of issuing permits for telcos that allow them to construct cell sites.
DILG Spokesperson Undersecretary Jonathan Malaya stressed that network infrastructure is crucial, especially in adapting to the new normal caused by the COVID-19 crisis.
Malaya said that the DILG and Anti-Red Tape Authority (ARTA) work together to fast-track the permitting process “to hasten the setting up of cell sites all over the Philippines.”
The implementation of the common tower will address the “gaps” in providing the Internet and will make way for the public to do seamless transactions online, the undersecretary added.
Likewise, the Senate asked the Department of Information and Communications Technology (DICT) and telcos to submit their plans to improve the status of connectivity in the country.
