To ensure continued delivery of education amid the COVID-19 pandemic, the Department of Education (DepEd) sought the support of the Department of Information and Communications Technology (DICT) to procure broadcast connectivity and digital learning for the education sector.

This includes requesting the DICT, alongside its attached agency, the National Telecommunications Commission (NTC), to encourage telecommunications companies (telcos) to continue providing free access to the DepEd Commons and other online platforms.

The DepEd also pursued the allocation of free Internet bandwidth for public schools and encouraged various businesses that provide telecommunications services, community cable providers, and Internet service providers (ISP) to do the same through collaboration.

In addition, the education department eyes to tap the DICT for technical support to accomplish the Last Mile Schools Program which augments satellite capacity and establishes fiber networks connected to remote schools.
