The Department of Education (DepEd) has begun coordinating with telecommunications companies Smart and Globe for free Internet.

“We are negotiating with two telcos to allow free use of their facilities,” DepEd Secretary Leonor Briones told the President.

The DepEd has also started discussing with local radio stations for the infrastructure and transistor radios as an alternative method in delivering education for those students who don’t have access to the Internet.

Briones also showed to Duterte that her department continues to prepare for the upcoming non-physical classes starting August 24.

“Nakabuwelo na kami Mr. President if suddenly pulled to a stop baka madapa kami kasi, we are moving very very fast,” the education secretary explained.

According to the DepEd, over 10 million students have already enrolled online, mostly from the National Capital Region (NCR), Region III (Central Luzon), and Region IV-A (Calabarzon) as of June 15.
