The Department of Agriculture (DA) and the Quezon City local government unit teamed up to advocate urban aquaculture and aquaponics among city residents.

The agreement (MOA) aims to help hog raisers affected by African swine fever (ASF) in Barangay Payatas and Barangay Bagong Silangan.

DA will provide initial agricultural inputs while the Quezon City LGU will help identify the project site, provide logistics support, and promote the technology.

Agriculture Secretary William Dar said that poverty problems should be managed through the availability of affordable and accessible food, calling for the national government agencies (NGAs) and LGUs to work together.

Aquaponics is a system that merges the concepts of aquaculture with hydroponics, allowing fish and vegetables to grow in an integrated environment.
