In terms of industrial automation systems, or what’s commonly known as Industry 4.0, Kaspersky bared in their report that companies, especially in the Manufacturing Industry located in Asia and Africa, are the least secure from the first half the year.
Under Asia, Southeast Asia was recorded to have the highest percentages in having Industrial Control Systems (ICS) computers nearly infected.
In terms of ransomware, regions in Asia still led in the regional rating, with more than half of the countries in the top 15 rankings are from the Asia Pacific (APAC).
Albeit the risks imposed by the developing technology-wise industry, such malicious encounters can be avoided. To protect the companies’ ICS environment from malicious attacks, Kaspersky recommends the following:
- Provide your staff with basic cybersecurity hygiene training, as many targeted attacks start with phishing or other social engineering techniques. Conduct a simulated phishing attack to ensure that they know how to distinguish phishing emails
- Provide your SOC team with access to the latest threat intelligence (TI). The Kaspersky Threat Intelligence Portal is a single point of access for the company’s TI, providing cyberattack data and insights gathered by Kaspersky over more than 20 years.
- For endpoint level detection, investigation, and timely remediation of incidents, implement EDR solutions, such as Kaspersky Endpoint Detection and Response.
- Implement a corporate-grade security solution that detects advanced threats at the network level at an early stage, such as Kaspersky Anti Targeted Attack Platform
Kaspersky advised protecting industrial endpoints and corporate ones. This can be done with the Kaspersky Industrial CyberSecurity solution, which includes dedicated protection for endpoints and network monitoring to reveal any suspicious and potentially malicious activity in the industrial network.
