The Chinese e-commerce giant Alibaba extended its services to law enforcement authorities to take down the production and sale of fake face masks using artificial intelligence technology.

Chinese law enforcement authorities dealt over 10 cases regarding the production and sale of fake facial masks since late January. In assisting combat against the novel coronavirus affecting the world, Alibaba fortified qualification examinations on facial masks with the utilization of algorithms and more other AI technologies.

Among these cases, Alibaba had a hand in the successful bust operation of fake masks sales in the market supervision department of southwestern China’s Chongqing Municipality, with two suspects arrested for selling more than 20,000 fake masks, involving about 200,000 yuan (1,445,600 Philippine Pesos).

Should Alibaba find any suspected fake products, such goods will be removed and shops will be closed from the e-commerce platform.
