The Philippine Statistics Authority (PSA) reported that a total of 28 million Filipinos have pre-registered for the Philippine Identification System (PhilSys) as of April, completing the procedure’s first step.
The initial step involves house-to-house collecting demographic information, prioritizing the low-income household heads. The second step proceeds to appointment setting.
Around 17.3 million Filipinos were added so far in the first quarter of 2021 to the existing 10.6 million registrants as of end-2020.
The PSA aims to register 70 million Pinoys by the end of the year, and 92 million Pinoys are expected to be registered by end-2022.
The rest of the population will be able to register through an online portal, soon to launch by PSA in the coming months, to fast-track the process amid the ongoing pandemic.
The PhilSys aimed to remove redundancy in issuing several government IDs, establishing an all-in-one ID identification system.
